Happy Summer Revolutionaries!!! As Pride month comes to an end and the beautiful summer days begin, I find myself feeling very reflective. In a year when many corporate sponsors have backed out of Pride, it reminds me that Pride was never about them anyways – it has always been about us! Us the queer people who live our lives 365 days a year, who raise our families, contribute to our communities and still smile, joke and sing in the face of the world’s craziness. It is also about our true allies; our friends who man the festival booths with us, who promote the Rainbow Awards with us, who interrupt hate speech with us and who make life more fun each and every day. Pride is about us!! It started as a riot born of the passion of our community and I remain proud to be a part of that continued grassroots expression that celebrates our lives.

This year, I was deeply touched to have been gifted a piece of artwork by Blair Bell-Rough, a ten year old artist and member of a local elementary school GSA. Blair wanted to do something to help create funds for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and designed this art that is now featured on our first ever trucker hat. All profits from the sales of these hats will go to fund this year’s Rainbow Awards in October. Blair reminds me that it isn’t about the size of what we do but the love with which we do it that matters. Blair’s art calls us to love one another and to give selflessly to help others.

As with all of the Revolution Now products, this item will be available only for pre-order until July 25th so that we only make as many as are wanted. It is a different model than corporate fast fashion culture and it means we need to wait a bit before we get our item in hand. It also means, the people who wear them REALLY want them and believe in what we are doing. I hope that you will feel this cause, the spirit with which it was designed and the positive impact that it will have on others. I encourage you to pre-order now if you are able and to click the “local pickup” button if you are in the Newmarket area and want to avoid shipping charges.

Lastly, for those of you that took up grown people roles during Pride month; those of you who did advocacy work, who spoke up and taught, who did the labour of lifting so that the younger generation could just enjoy the party – THANK YOU! Our team thanks you for your effort and wishes you a peaceful and restful summer as you wind down from the emotional toll that June inevitably takes. Wishing everyone a fun and happy summer!

Let’s go change the world,
Megan
