Happy March Revolutionaries!! We’ve been a little quiet lately at Revolution Now but have taken great joy in watching the impactful work that our friends have been doing in the New Year. Specifically, our team would like to shout out the work being done by NACCA and the fabulous educational and social programming that they led in Newmarket throughout Black History Month. We would also like to bring to everyone’s attention that tickets are still on sale for the Aurora Black Community’s Gala that is taking place on April 11th. We will be there and encourage our friends to buy tickets at aurorablackcommunity.com.
2025 has been a year where it has been hard for some of our team to process current events and to engage in conversations about the impact of the erasure of diversity, equity and inclusion programs, international aid and protections for transgender people. In a recent radio interview, I was asked why I like fighting for social justice. I replied that, “I don’t like fighting – that fighting is exhausting and depletes the spirit. Rather, I like trying to create understanding. I appreciate when we can share, create space and hear each other’s stories and try to help each other to experience love, health and happiness.”
With that spirit of agency and purpose, Revolution Now has rebranded our signature grey shirts to include a new logo on the back of our shirts, that reads “Built For Love, Health & Happiness”. This new logo is also a tribute to my dear friend, Katy Bartle, who passed away suddenly in December. The last text message Katy ever sent me was wishing me love, health and happiness always. That was her vibe, always cheering for other people. As I and many others grieve Katy’s loss, this logo change is one that is meant to remind us to keep putting that kind of energy into the world, to keep pushing for humanity and goodness for all people, the way she did. From the sales of these shirts, $5.00 from every shirt will be donated to an education fund for Katy’s children.
In a time when the world can feel overwhelming and when our problems can feel all too big, I think it’s important to maintain that spirit of agency and to surround ourselves with other people who still believe our love and understanding can fundamentally change the world. With that intention, we are hosting our first event of this year on May 31st, 2025, which is also my friend Katy’s birthday. This event is called “The Common Table Farm Fundraiser” and will be held outdoors at All Saints Church (12935 Keele St, King City) from 1-4pm. This fundraiser will be a free event featuring live music, crafts for kids, vendors, a road tennis tournament and fashion and art booths by friends of Revolution Now, including Noah Wright and the Indigenous Action Committee. We will be raising money via donation to support the Common Table, which is a free, organic, community garden and kitchen, that serves new immigrants and refugees in the Flemingdon Park community. To support this initiative, you can donate online or at the event. We will also be donating $5.00 from the sale of every newly branded shirt to The Common Table.
Our team hopes that you can put this date on the calendar, Saturday May 31st, and that you can come out and share your energy to create love, health and happiness for yourselves and others. We look forward to sharing this day with you!!
Keep changing the world!
With Love & Gratitude,
Megan
