It’s back to school season and the good energy of friends reuniting is everywhere. It is heartwarming to see young people getting back involved in the things that make them smile: from volleyball teams, bands, drama groups and community service events; it is absolutely inspiring to see the effort and energy that our young people put out into our community.

As Spirit Day nears, we at Revolution Now have a special desire to honour these amazing young people who do so much for our community. We know that sometimes the 2SLGBTQ+ community can be somewhat invisible and that our good works are done out of a sense of service. That said, we believe that our 2SLGBTQ+ kids deserve not only some shine for all the good that they do but also some inspiration and a bit of a party too!! We are excited to provide that opportunity on Wednesday October 16th from 6:00-8:00pm at New Roads Performing Arts Centre in Newmarket where we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Rainbow Awards.

We hope that you will go out of your way to spread the word about the Rainbow Awards and nominate deserving students. To nominate students, write us an email to info@revolution-now.ca that includes a description of how this young person contributes to the academic, athletic, artistic or civic life in our community or in their school community. We also are excited to share that we have $10,000 in scholarship money to be awarded to selected recipients who are in their grade 12 year of school. You can nominate students who attend elementary or secondary school anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area and from private, public and Catholic schools. We hope that there will be lots of parents, teachers and friends in attendance to cheer on our winners.

We are also thrilled to share that our keynote speaker this year will be Rowan Jette Knox, a two time National Best Selling Author and renowned leader in Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ community. We will also be having numerous youth presentations so stay tuned to our social media accounts for more news on who will be entertaining on the night of the awards.

As we near this second annual event, we are also really thankful for the many brave teachers who lead the Gender Sexuality Alliances at their schools. We realize that this is work that is life saving, life affirming and often this voluntary requires you to have to educate and have heavy conversations to protect and serve our kids. We are so thankful for the work that you do and hope that there will be many of you in attendance for this night of celebration.

We wish all our friends who are back in schools continued joy and sense of belonging in your communities. We look forward to seeing everyone together at the Rainbow Awards. Keep changing the world, you are the only ones who can!!

With Gratitude,
Megan
