TRUTH & RECONCILIATION DAY SHIRT
XS and 3XL - Sold Out
This shirt is designed by Wikwemikong Nation artist, Keith Gattie. The language on the front is Anishinaabemowin and loosely translates to “We Change What We Must”.
The meaning is as follows: the eagle is sacred because it flies closest to the Creator and symbolizes strength and wisdom. The owls are often seen as messengers. Some healers call upon the owl for insight into the truth. In this image the owls represent the true experience of Indigenous children, with one looking to the Creator for wisdom for the future and one looking back to honour the spirit of residential school survivors. The apple tree represents the orchard at the Woodland Cultural Centre behind the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. Eight dollars from the sale of each of these shirts will go to support youth programming at the Woodland Cultural Centre.
These shirts are ethically made in Canada, by female led companies and are comprised of recycled water bottles and organic materials.
